Bandura Lesson Registration Form

On March 12, 2024, we had the honor to perform with string musicians of the Cleveland Orchestra. This collaborative concert, entitled “Blue & Gold: Colors of the Bandura”, included a special arrangement of one of Kytasty’s most well-known pieces for bandura, violin, viola, and cello.

A year ago today, we had the opportunity to collaborate with the Cleveland Orchestra’s composer-in-residence Allison Loggins-Hull (@alogginshull) and perform with string musicians of the Cleveland Orchestra (@cleveorch). The concert, entitled “Blue & Gold: Colors of the Bandura”, featured works by Hryhory Kytasty, Mykola Lysenko, Valentin Silvestrov, and Caroline Shaw.

Over the course of her residency, Allison worked with community partners, like our school, to build artistic relationships that reflect and engage the Cleveland community. This concert was part of her 2024 In Community Chamber Concert Series.

Last weekend, Kobzarska Sich (@kobzarska.sich) held a concert in Philadelphia where they performed repertoire from last summer’s Christmas themed bandura camp.

Joining the ensemble from Cleveland were Vasyk Kmiotek, Yura Kmiotek, Kyrylo Mahlay, Mykola Rakowsky, and Alex Schidowka.

Yesterday, several of our students and instructors performed Hryhory Kytasty’s “Різдвяні Мотиви” (Christmas Motifs) for parishioners of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, Ohio.

This piece, arranged by Kytasty in 1969 for the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus (@ukrainianbandura), is a medley of the popular Ukrainian Christmas carols Во Вифлеємі, Возвеселімся, and Щедрик. Swipe through to hear each carol in the piece. To watch the full video, go to our Facebook page!

This year, there were over 80 participants in five different programs. Cleveland had a good showing, with two Program Directors (@kulyktaisa for Junior Bandura Workshop and @nadiatarnawsky for Folk Music Experience), two (first-time!) Assistant Bandura Instructors (@k.mahlay and @alexschidowka), and fifteen participants!
